Akira....oh yes, Akira is our innocent, kind-hearted boy. Personally, I think he's too wild *laugh* After all, he’s been raised in the countryside for a few years by his maternal grandmother. Losing his parents at an early age, he didn’t acknowledge the fact that his father had been the rightful heir to the Takatou family until he was left orphaned for a second time upon his grandmother’s death.
The truth is, his father left the Takatou’s household to live a commoner life and spare his own child the burden of his family name. Destiny, however, was already written and being approached when he was all alone in this world, Akira accepted the Takatou’s terms, thinking he still had a family that would care for him.
However, this one turned out to be a "less-than-traditional" family, but the most wealthy and powerful business family in Japan. Unfortunately, the main purpose to attract Akira into the family was to decide the next heir, and therefore, new head of the clan.
Anyway, Akira decided to stay and started his new life at the Takatou main house. Soon, his innocent and clumsy behavior made everyone like him (minus the current Takatou head, his paternal grandmother) even if they do laugh at him now and then. Still, he's so gentle and nice that all those around him become warmed by his presence.
Akira is also quickly concerned about anyone's problems and tries to help by any means; which, by the way, usually ends in him causing more trouble for himself that he had initially. Then again, someone has to save the day. Who else for that task than a certain cousin of his?

At Rei's eyes, Akira is his only sunshine (I really think Akira’s having the best out of Rei); means that Akira manages to bring out the gentle caring side of Rei instead of his usual cold-self. Although he also manages to bring out the worst of him and that’s when Rei’s bad side also shows up; usually summoned by a misunderstanding situation between them both.
Not for nothing they say; there's a very blurry tiny line between love and hate; trust and despair.
And Akira, with all his innocence sometimes step on those tiny lines and cross on enemy’s territory, like that time when he locked himself by accident, with Raoul in the storage room. Or, before this he was insulted by Raoul (again) and Rei threw his drink right into his face on a rather unusual outburst (he did deserve it anyway). Unfortunately Raoul took note of Rei’s strange behavior and quickly took advantage of Akira to get his revenge on his eternal rival. And Rei obliged himself rescuing his precious Akira.
Why? Well, because Akira was the victim, Akira is important to Rei and to other people. That’s when you start to understand Akira’s importance to Rei and anyone near to him.
Well later on, Raoul kind of became his friend or something in the line /laugh/.
However it is also true that behind that sweet childish face of his Akira feels a need to be loved and not let alone anymore. This may be his main reason to stay at the Takatou’s until he realize he has fallen for the charming still strange boy that is Rei. All in all, he does feel insecure about himself and his relationship with Rei, which makes him struggle with his own feelings and at the same time makes him discover new ones, warms and full of affection toward his beloved.

In general, I think Akira makes me piss-off sometimes, but he's so nice I easily forget his clumsy steps \laugh/. I would say he define the typical unlucky uke who unwarily matches perfectly the lead seme of the story and make you want to know and read more, in that aspect I really think Koujima-sensei got her point and created a wonderful little guy, Nonaka Akira.

In few words, Rei would be defined as a genius still quite the pervert prince charming.
His main and unique interest is Akira and everything in his mind revolves around Akira. Since their very first encounter when Akira arrived at the Takatou’s household and got a sight of a sleeping boy in the garden; Rei has been pushing Akira to unknown reactions and feelings. This very meeting was also the start of an awkward relationship, Rei being a complete mystery to Akira and Akira not quite used to Rei’s strange behavior almost cost him to lose his prospect of lover several times ( seriously \laugh/).
After all, would you take it as a compliment if a complete stranger tells you: “you smell like earth” (sounds more like: you smell like dirt ^^; \laugh/.)? This and other misplaced comments could lead you to think the other person is playing and making you a fool.

Do not be impressed by Rei’s coldness and rash ways, he keeps a hard shell around his self for a good reason. Rei is his parents’ marriage only boy, which by the way is not his father’s first but second marriage. Rei has been raised alone for a major part of his life, his parents far too busy to take care of him by themselves, always travelling or just busy with the Basil Company. He hasn’t enjoyed a proper childhood because he was son of the very same Basil family and would inherit at some point the family business, this sole fact kept him away of many child-things like friends or to knit bounds with people of his same age.
Quickly entrust the goal to become a business man, little Rei begun at an early age to study and turn out to be quite a genius on those matters. Shigure once mention that Rei had already graduated from university and has gain his own name in the business world, enough to say he could live by his own means and didn’t require his family money to maintain his lifestyle. Quite impressive for a now 15 years old boy don’t you think?
But Rei success doesn’t end here. His mind is already notable but his look is easy in the eye too. A mix of American and Takatou blood gives Rei his atypical physical traits and claims unwanted attention wherever he goes. This seemingly unimportant fact has however great consequences, imagine a young boy or child that is beautiful by himself and add him a bunch of bodyguards and outstanding stuff that only bring more eyes on the little creature, how would he feel if he doesn’t really understand why is people always looking at him with wondering looks and some others not that friendly. Would that shape his future being? I would say yes.
Although this future being has the power and abilities to be the wished heir, he will also be insecure and will struggle against long internal battles. That’s when Rei turns out to be an intriguing mystery.

The present Rei tries to keep a low profile as much as he can, he doesn’t play the typical rich badass spoiled child, it’s all the other way around instead; he wants to avoid all annoyance such as bodyguards and unwanted attention. However, he’s also mature enough to understand his own position, not only for the sake of his name but also for what that name means to others. Greed and vengeance can easily tempt mischief schemers. This brings up to surface some disturbing facts that happened prior his arrival to Japan.
From what has been said so far, Rei has been target and victim from several abduct attempts back in the States, the most recent almost finished in bad terms if it wasn’t for his bodyguard precise hindrance.
Rei, most probably already sick of living that way, carries a deep hatred towards hurtful person; this was shown at the kidnap accident in which Sagiri was first hurt and Rei seeing himself cornered, took the gun and aim it to the gangsters. Fortunately Sagiri finished them off before Rei did, although it didn’t keep away the boy from carrying his guilt and frustration; continuously thinking in the “what if” and persuading himself that he is a despicable person; covering his turmoil with a heartless façade and isolating himself from any hurt.
So now it is easier to understand his quick change of mind and reactions. As he has once told Akira: “I can only be kind to one person.”


With that said, Rei is a possessing loving person although he did wait for Akira to return his feelings. Akira is precious to him and I can’t think on what he could do if Akira was to leave his side (makes him the winner: Angst Seme! \laugh/)

Raoul is Rei’s father oldest daughter’ son which makes him Rei’s nephew (or ‘half-nephew’ since his mother is in fact Rei’s half-sister)
Your first impression of him would most probably be: He's such a pretty guy but, he’s a complete ARSE-oool! (Taken this from a movie, I really couldn’t hold it! \laugh/) But you must give him some credit; the guy has also suffered on his own way. If you've already read that far, Raoul said that because Rei could speak Japanese so fluently he wanted to speak that way too, and has always been envious of Rei. In fact, everything Rei could do he learnt it too. Always trying to keep on his league but seemingly failing, not that he can’t outrival Rei ; the real problem is people doesn’t recognize his efforts , always favoring Mr. Basil’ son not the grandson, and Rei is far from acknowledge his mere existence as his rival. A certain comment made it clear that having been raised round Rei has only been a suffering for him. Although it isn’t clear if the so-called competence between them has been official from the start or just grown as expectations developed in the Basil entourage.

In any case it is sure that Raoul hasn’t any friendly feelings for Rei but as the story goes and Akira’s interference it is also revealed some interesting things about him. When he first appears Raoul is full of hate and mischief against Rei, he only wants to trouble his uncle and get some reaction from him. Which seem to be bad intentions however turn out to be a simple pleading. Raoul wants to be acknowledged.
From what he says it is also understood he suffers great frustrations and must likely an inferiority complex which he willingly covers under a selfish harsh and insufferable behavior. He, unconsciously, echoes Rei’s behavior in such a worst way that makes everyone reject him.

At the end of the fifth volume though it seems he has found an answer to his doubts and finally resigned looking for Rei’s acceptance.

Anyway, in overall I’d say Raoul despite acting like a real jerk most of the time also has a kind heart; he does keep hiding it but he loves his little sisters, and has begun being friend with Akira far from Rei’s eyes *sweat drop* and even started treating people like for what they are, living beings with their own feelings.
Doesn’t that make him a cute guy?
